Ethical Code for authors

In order to maintain the quality of the journal, smooth functioning, and publication, the following points are suggested:

  1. The article should not be sent for publication to any other journal or book once submitted for Sodh Patrika.
  2. The text of the paper should be logical and include sufficient detail and references and source of information so that the reviewer can recommend it for publication.
  3. Use primary sources to support your text and all the relevant work done on the subject should be cited.  And avoid redundant publication of research reports to artificially increase the number of references.
  4. All the references cited in the paper must be complete in all respect
  5.  In case of papers based on analysis of archaeological samples the corresponding/first author will be responsible for obtaining necessary permissions.
  6. Authors must clearly mention methodology of their research and significance of the paper they are sending for publication.
  7. The corresponding/first author must ensure that all co-authors are informed about the full manuscript and that they have agreed to its publication.
  8. The authors must avoid plagiarism.

The data/ maps/ photographs/ drawings/ illustrations/ flow charts, etc. being used for the research articles are authors own contributions. If these are from other sources, it is assumed that necessary written permission from the concerned persons or institutions for using these has been taken.

Ethical code for peer reviewers

The main principle of sending article for a review is to improve the quality and avoid creation of inappropriate/ not academically viable knowledge statements.

1. Only agree to review manuscripts for which they have the subject expertise.
2. Always maintain the confidentiality of peer review and not reveal any details of a manuscript or its review, during or after the peer-review process.
3. Not use information obtained during the peer-review process for their own or any other person’s or organization’s advantage or to disadvantage or discredit others.
4. Not to get influenced by the origins of a manuscript, by the nationality, religious or political beliefs, gender or other characteristics of the authors, or by commercial considerations.
5. To be objective and constructive in their reviews, refraining from being hostile or
inflammatory and from making derogatory personal comments.
6. Agree to review a manuscript if peer reviewer is fairly confident that he/she can return a review within the proposed or mutually agreed time-frame, informing the journal promptly if they require an extension.
7. Notify the journal immediately if they come across any irregularities, have concerns about ethical aspects of the work, are aware of substantial similarity between the manuscript and a concurrent submission to another journal or a published article, or suspect that misconduct may have occurred during either the research or the writing and submission of the manuscript; reviewers should, however, keep their concerns confidential and not personally investigate further.

Publisher's Responsibilities

The publisher is dedicated to supporting the vast efforts of the editors, the academic contributions of authors, and the respected volunteer work undertaken by reviewers. The publisher is also responsible for ensuring that the publication system works smoothly, and that ethical guidelines are applied to assist the editor, author, and reviewer in performing their ethical duties.

Editor's Responsibilities

The editors and editorial advisors do not get influenced by the origins of a manuscript, by the nationality, religious or political beliefs, gender or other characteristics of the authors, or by commercial considerations. They do not favour any organization or professional body or authors to get any personal advantage.

  1. The editor should acknowledge receipt of submitted manuscripts within seven working days of receipt and ensure an efficient, fair, and timely review process.
  2. The editor should ensure that submitted manuscripts are processed in a confidential manner, and that no content of the manuscripts will be disclosed to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and the publisher, as appropriate.
  3. The editor should recuse himself or herself from processing manuscripts if he or she has any conflict of interest with any of the authors or institutions related to the manuscripts.
  4. The editor should not disclose the names and other details of the reviewers to a third party without the permission of the reviewers.
  5. The editor has the right to make the final decision on whether to accept or reject a manuscript with reference to the significance, originality, and clarity of the manuscript and its relevance to the journal.
  6. The editor should by no means make any effort to oblige the authors to cite his or her journal either as an implied or explicit condition of accepting their manuscripts for publication.
  7. The editor should not use for his or her own research any part of any data or work reported in submitted and as yet unpublished articles.
  8. The editor should respond promptly and take reasonable measures when an ethical complaint occurs concerning a submitted manuscript or a published paper, and the editor should immediately contact and consult with the author. In this case, a written formal retraction or correction may also be required.
